Lesson 651: The Cabin of Many Colors

Hello, Readers.
Eloise, here,
with your weekend update.

There has been a couple of
famous coats of many colors.

Joseph's,

and Dolly's are the most well known.

You can even buy a replica of Dolly's
on Etsy.

But there have only been a rare few
cabins of many colors.

We still haven't decided on a color,
but have narrowed it down to two
for the main part.

The color on the longer strips
above and below the window
on the left side is Ember.
The one on the right is Cedar.
Homework:  Cast your vote in the facebook comments.

Personally I like the warmth of Ember,
but worry it's too orangey.

The Cedar to the right is the closest to the original color,
but it reminds me of the color of
baby diarrhea.

The army green is Roycroft Brass
and the sandy color is Desert Wood
and are both under consideration for trim colors.

Eloise wants a retirement job
of naming paint shades.

We are all learning lots
as we strip the cabin down and
build it back up.

I learned how to put in floors
and build bed frames this week.

Hubby named the cabin officially,
because of the beautiful creek view
and homage to our hometown
of Harborcreek.

When you come visit
you can sign the guest book.

It has a floppy leather cover
that reminds me of Hazel's ears.

You won't be the first to sign,
but surely won't be the last.
I'm chasing down Alex and Buddy
who helped with the plumbing.
I forgot to have you sign!
Rookie mistake.

Before we leave the forest
the guys always get a sip of spring water.

From the looks of that pipe,
I think the best choice is the diarrhea color.

We've taken many early morning treks
to the National Forest over the last month.

It was a foggy ride early this morning.

I was happy to ride shotgun
and sip my coffee,
camera in hand,
and soak in the colors of nature.

I whine to stop for photos many times on the way down.
If we stopped every time I asked,
it would be a six hour trip.

This morning I DEMANDED
that Hubby stop the vehicle immediately,
certain that I had found an albino deer.

Dang it Dave's Archery.
You have to move that thing away
from my line of sight.

Today on my walk I focused on finding webs.

What I colorful walk I had today.

This little girl joined me for part of it.
What a blessing!

Baseball isn't having
what you'd call a colorful season.

The fields are a bit lonely,
but the scenes are still beautiful.

Sam is learning to fish!

I wonder what the bird's eye view of the fishing hole
is like

when Sam hooks one

and I'm screaming at him to throw it back,
that he has friends and family
and is probably a teacher in the school.

I'm sure there will be plenty of colorful stories

coming from the cabin in the years to come.

I found this written on a post
in the sleeping loft we were working on this week.
I hope Andrea and Val see this blog!

Stories are so wonderful,
especially this one!
A friend recommended it to me last week.

I'm a sucker for a good cover
and the black lab sealed the deal
before I even opened the book.
Well,
were in 2020,
so for this one,
I swiped the Kindle
if you want to get picky about it.

It's about a little girl named Elsa.
She is very close to her zany grandmother
who lives next door to her.
Eloise can kind of relate.

Granny loves treasure hunts,
and she makes one last one for Elsa.

If the cover and sneak peeks don't hook you,
then maybe the chapter titles will.
I love a book with good chapter titles.

Tobacco,
Coffee,
and  Beer.
Wait.....
Did I write this book about Grandma?

Be safe in your own adventures this week.
Take care of yourselves,
and in doing so,
we take care of others.
Wash your hands
and I'll see you next week.

Lesson 650: A Blogger's Dilemma

It's Sunday night
and this blogger is in a dilemma.
Do you read blogs on Sunday nights?
Should I just hold onto my thoughts
and photos
until next week?
Eloise had a tech glitch on Friday
and was unable to post.

I find myself in many dilemmas,
as of late.

Maybe the steady stream of news
followed by the flood of people's opinions
has left me wavering.

The green fingers are pointing forward
for Erie to move into Pennsylvania's color coded reopening phase
with fewer restrictions.
Eloise will glad step forward,
but how big of a step
remains to be seen.

The colors are so beautiful in June.
June,
hands down,
is the best month of the year.

Speaking of color,
and I'm probably going to catch hell for this,
but.....

When I do have the chance to talk with people,
I feel like I have to work harder at a conversation.
I want to avoid the tough topics,
and just enjoy some comfortable conversation--
but about what?

That's why I stick to squirrels.

\

We got a Cricut
so that is a good conversation starter.
Ellen Louise is going to town
and we only had it two days!
What project should be next?

We've been spending lots of time in the great outdoors,

because of our new claim in Forest County.

My kids love it there.

Especially Mickey.
He's been Natalie's constant companion
for a couple of months.

Our biggest dilemma is choosing the color.
Yes, those are all paint samples
and misses.

I told the locals if anyone inquired as to why the front looked like that,
I told them to say it was modern art,
and we were thinking of striping the place.

I need a back-up hobby
in case we get kicked out of the forest.
so I got one of these!

Have you seen the Been There, Done That posters?

WAIT A MINUTE....
is that my hairbrush?

HAZEL!
Just two tooth marks before I rescued it.

The Been There Done That posters

are called Lifelogues,
the world's most interactive posters.
They are one part journal,
one part bucket list,
and one part wall art.

If you travel,
you can get ones for cities you can visit.
If you love movies,
mark the movies you watch.
There are lots of them.

They look like this,
sort of--
mine is not framed yet.

I chose the one with 100 Young Adult Novels
because I love books
and the people I talk about them the most with
are my students.

I counted,
and I have read 20 of the 100,
check my math,
but that leaves me 80 new books
that some committee thought should make the poster.
I can't wait to argue with them.

You scratch off the novels as you read them,
and can rank them.

I can be the Simon Cowell of Young Adult Novel reading.

I'll show you more next week
after I have it all set up.

My biggest dilemma is deciding what,
if any photos to post of people.
I love candid shots,
and usually in any gathering
have my zoom trained on someone's face
waiting for that one special moment.

People catch my moments

Image may contain: one or more people, people sitting and outdoor

and call me a good photographer.

Image may contain: one or more people, ocean, water and outdoor

I'm nothing of the sort.
I'm just someone waiting in the wings
with my finger on the button.
Image may contain: 4 people, people playing sports and basketball court

We are living in a very sensitive time
and it shows on people's faces.
In the last few months,
there have been very few times I've been
places with people to photograph.

This past weekend,
these two cuties
sharing a summertime joy of blowing bubbles
really made me feel the vibe,
and miss the way things were.

I hope all the Fathers out there enjoyed their day.
