Eloise here,
happy to be back among my teacher friends
as most teachers were back to school this week.
The energy among us is magical sometimes.
That feeling is still present for me,
so I'm back at it another year.
Year 33 for me!
It's destined to be magical.
Our district theme this year is Make Magic.
I love it.
Our superintendent shared this Michigan graduation speech
from 2024 by writer Brad Meltzer, titled Make Magic.
It's a great listen,
so here is your weekend Bonus Point homework:
Brad outlined the four ways to Make Magic for us.
You can:
1. Make something appear.
2. Make something disappear
3. Make something switch places
4. Transform something
Sunflowers are magical.
Plant a tiny seed and these beauties appear!
Sam wished he could magically make this shot disappear!
Golf is Sam's new athletic challenge
and it is kicking his butt!
He also wishes the ribbing about this terrible news
out of Main would disappear, too.
Charlie sent these to Sam
and asked if he needed any school supplies.
Congrats to Charlie on his new job!

Eloise is about to make a transformation herself
this weekend.
Meet the Magical Mullein!
For those of you who have stopped by the Lamp Post
this summer got a chance to see
this giant plant growing between my swing
and chow triangle.
They grow to be over 5 feet tall.
Check out the massive leaves compared to Penny for reference.
Side note:
We renamed Penny to Dollar
We renamed Penny to Dollar
due to her recent vet visit.
The pukes and poops for 48 hours were costly to investigate.
She's on the mend, thankfully,
and the care was worth every penny, er....dollar.
My parents first learned about mullein
last year when they were getting some work done at their cottage.
A Native American was on the crew
and pointed out this crazy looking plant,
growing straight up out of the beach gravel.
He told them all about the medicinal properties
of mullein.
The leaves look just like human lungs,
and they are said to help with breathing problems
and wound care.
I won't share links as I am not offering up medical advice.
Do some research for yourself if you are so inclined,
and make some magic yourself!
I picked some leaves from the first year plants.
and hung them on my parents' clothesline.
By the way--
that's my Dad's garbage can lid that I painted like a
Captain America shield--
but that is story for another day....
The first year plants only grow leaves.
The big, tall flowered part grows the second year.
Look around--
you may find one growing in the most unlikely places.
This one is growing out of a tiny crack in the cement.
My parents put a plant in front of it
so nobody runs it over.
Oddly, Charlie the cat likes to sleep next to it.
The HC Lady Huskies Golf Coach
has transformed 9 young ladies who didn't know each other
into a team!

(Maybe the Lady Huskies can give Sam some golf lessons).
