Lesson 918: Milkweed

 Hello, Readers.

It is an absolutely gorgeous Friday afternoon

here in Erie, PA.

I'm writing early so I have a chance to enjoy the evening.

First stop when I'm done with this blog:

Checking on my plants!

They are at the height of their beauty!

The zinnias are so gorgeous!
They are late summer thrivers!
Natalie Jeanne is saving them as they go to seed
so we can enjoy them next season.

I like to check on the milkweed every day.

One of my favorite gardening days
is finding them split open
with their fluffy pilots
taking the seeds to flight.

    Milkweed is so, so important.
See Eloise if you need some.

I got a surprise copy of Braiding Sweetgrass in the mail this week.
A book arriving in the mail is one of my greatest joys.

I added it to the top of the current stack.
Yes, I'm reading all of those books at once.

I have so many good ones to tell you about.

Therefore, it's time for a
Book Party at the Lamp Post!

Sunday, October 5th
(thanks for the date correction Kathy R!)
2:00-4:00 pm
Lamp Post

We will be featuring this book--
I'll read you the first part
and YOU decide where the story takes you next.

Bring your list of Best Reads
to share with others who come.
I'll add your suggestions to
the Big List of Good Books!

Eloise always recommends
ordering a copy from
Werner Books--which is my favorite bookstore.
Tia is also a nice one in North East.

You can get a copy from Amazon pretty cheap, of course.
But I like to support my local bookstores when I can.

When reading the opening of Braiding Sweetgrass
they referenced Milkweed.org

Of course, their header hooked me immediately!

Here's a little more about them:

After a cup of this week's chosen coffee to taste--

the pups and the Real Wicked Italian
are headed out on a ride
to look for some split milkweed,
and maybe a Mum or two
from Erica's farm stand.

Since this book has an earthy feel,
I'll post a few pics
of a field trip on Presque Isle this week.

The students were seining and identifying fish!

Teens + Nature = Good Things

Christmas gift suggestion:
Get the kids some chest waders
and take them outside!
