Lesson 817: Scary

Hello, Readers.

For you Spooky-Lovers,
this is a nice weekend for you,
with all the pre-Halloween hype.

I've learned birds freak some people out.

They don't bother me all that much, surprisingly.
Eloise is a Certified Fraidycat.

I've been watching this flock,
and I finally caught them landing in the road.

What was the big squawk for this flock?

These!

Birds are scary,
but so are big fish.

You can find this guy in the middle of

the newly dug out pond
at the Harborcreek Community Park.

Natalie and I checked it out this week
on a dog walk.

That park was peak this week!

It's scary how fast the leaves are falling off my favorite tree!

These photos are just two days apart.

It's scary when your son isn't on the field.

Last week Sam was still too sick to even stand on the sidelines.

Don't ever be fooled with Mono.
The acute phase begins after the first five days.
We watched last week's game via livestream.

The computer was about 20 seconds ahead of the tv,

making the big screen like a full-game instant replay.
That was kind of fun.

Team sports are great character builders.
Sam was well enough to travel to Greenville,
and he celebrated a win with his teammates.

Be afraid next year!
The Huskies will be sharpening their teeth until next season.

The guys took tooth-sharpening lessons from my scary pitties,
especially Penny.
(zoom her photo)

What is scarier than missing the end of your football season?
Missing 10 days of high school classes.
It's been raining make-up work here for four days.

I had a very scary health experience today,
and had to make a fast exit from school.

I'll say this with the most sincere certainty:
If anything goes awry, get to a school---
someone will help you solve the problem.
There is a plan and procedure for everything,
executed by calm and kind individuals.
Thank you to my Rolling Ridge friends.

I'm supposed to be taking it easy this weekend
although it is 12:16 am and I am still typing.....

When I do get a break on Saturday afternoon
I'll be reading both of these books!
I'm about 70% through them both
and I'm trying to decide if I'll rank them 4's or 5's.

Yes, there will be a fall meeting for the
Anything But a Book Club Book Club.
I just have to get Sam and I feeling a bit better first.

If you are scared you are going to miss out on Natalie's next
Happy People shirt sale,
rest easy.
Contact one of the Lamp Posters for a pre-order
and we'll be sure to order one for you in the size you want.
Crewnecks and tees available in November--
hopefully distributed Thanksgiving weekend.
We will post the design and color in a few days.

Old Eloise needs to rest her bones for the night
or I am going to look like this guy in the morning.

Have a great weekend!
Eloise

Lesson 816: Oh, Honey!

Fall is really a beautiful season in Pennsylvania.

Oh, honey, is it ever!

Especially near the lake!

I always picture Mother Nature flying over the land,

tapping plants and trees with her wand.

Here's an interesting comparison of the Clark School tree,

from 2022 to 2023 at nearly the same time.

and

We went through the seed chapter Thursday

in my Master Gardner class.

I still don't know what to do with these things.

That's probably because I got a 20% on the pretest.

I read the chapter,

went through the webinar,

then retook the test.

I got a 50%.

It is hard!

But I enjoy it.

I have a lot to learn about the plants I love!

This is what a Master Gardner webinar looks like.

It's not exactly a wild night out.

To liven up Thursdays,

I've been working on this needle point while I listen.

I love the honey colored petals on this sunflower.

It was sunny out midweek

and I made my gang stay outside as long as possible.

Especially the patient.

Slam #51 has been as cockeyed as his sign.

I was fooled into thinking his mono was mild.

I learned this week that mono has three phases,

and he spent most of this week in the acute phase on the couch.

Oh, the mono throat!

Oh, my poor honey!

I tried to get Sam to take a honey concoction I made
since antibiotics don't work for mono.

You would have thought I was killing him.
The gagging.
The complaining.
The loud, thick-throated protests.

Oh, honey, my @$$!
He's STUBBORN.
Some things never change.

One guy who watches for sameness and for change is this guy:
The Angry Bee Keeper.

I love this guy.
Erieites,
he's from the Niagara Region of Canada,
so not too far from us.
He's getting lots of attention lately
because of his weather predictions about
this upcoming winter.

Who is the Angry Bee Keeper?
This is how he describes himself in his Tik Tok bio.
My name is Lee Moore. I'm a beekeeper certified by the wind and the rain. I reside in southern Ontario Canada with my wife, daughters and cousins by the dozens.

If you are interested in his comparisons of this fall,
to the fall of 2016,
which El Nino was in play--
check out how his bees behaved:

Here's another one about the golden rod flow

I like this gal from Texas, too.
Here is a Today Show clip of her life with the bees.
She's best known for scooping them with her bare hands!
Erika Thompson
With an audience of over 10 million bee lovers online, Erika Thompson is the most popular beekeeper in the world. Her revolutionary bee removal work showing how to humanely handle bees has been featured on The Joe Rogan Experience, CNN, the BBC, on The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Ellen Show and more.

Another bee

I love it when things in life connect!
Look what book I happen to be listening to.

What a good book.
It has some heavy topics
and it comes with trigger warnings about domestic violence,
but the story that builds is so good.
It's told through a series of present day
and flashbacks.
Just like LOST
and why I loved the show so much!

This connection happened as well, this week.

I think I'm going to escape into this story tonight.
It's been a hard few days.
We lost a kitty in a hit and run Thursday night
and we are all very sad at the Lamp Post.
Someone else's story is the only thing
that can remove me from my own for awhile.

Good night, Readers.
Sleep tight---
and add a little honey to your Sleepy time tea!
