Lesson 549: From Creek to Creek

Good evening, friends.
As promised tonight,
a recap for our recent excursion
to Deep Creek Lake, Maryland

From Harborcreek, PA
to
Deep Creek Lake, MD
is just under a four hour drive.

Down I-79 to Morgantown WV,
then head east into MD for about an hour.
There you'll find a great vacation spot
tucked away in the mountains.

Deep Creek Lake
with its spider-like tentacled inlets
makes for a great place to explore.

We stayed at this cozy place.

The Inn at Deep Creek affordable,
pet friendly,

and one of the few places in the area with a pool.

It also has access to the lake.

With a little research
and lots of helpful advice from the
front desk attendant, also named Elaine
(aren't all Elaine's friendly and helpful?)
we hit all of the areas hot spots
dodging rain in an unseasonably wet forecast.

A good vacation spot for the Lamp Posters
is somewhere that offers a mix
of both nature

and man-made entertainment.

Boasting five state parks nearby,
the must see park
is the Swallow Falls.

The park offered a 1.25 mile loop to hike
with the feel of Panama Rocks,

but offered the views

of four waterfalls.

Look for Elmo at the bottom of this one.
Erik tossed him over the ledge.

It has a clearly marked trail,
with many warning signs,

that not everyone read.

New Germany State Park was another favorite,
offering spectacular views
and very affordable paddle board and kayak rentals,

and a swimming location.

The kids were most intrigued with
the phone booth appearance in the middle of the state park.

What's that thing? they asked.

Mother Eloise loved the pre loaded Geocaches on rentable Garmins.
So many times you Geocache and lose signal out in the trees.

I also loved this Bee Haven.

Deep Creek Lake itself is more of a sport lake.
Pontoon boat rentals

kayaks and other water fun vehicles
are plentiful to rent.

Access to the shoreline in the form of a beach
is best found at the Deep Creek Lake State Park.

You can also take advantage of one of the many
seasonal rentals that afford beach access.
The size of your wallet
will determine
the size of the place in which you stay.

After looking at these places in the Deep Creek Cove,
I'm thinking the Gay Bay needs a face lift.

Charlie and Darlene, here is your new blueprints,

Mom & Dad this is perfect for you!
It even has the triangular top!

Peggy & Bruce,
you'll have plenty of space for the kids and grand kids
if you renovate with this plan.

Wisp Mountain ski resort
offered a nice chair lift ride--
nearly 30 minutes long

and a very short,
but fun mountain coaster ride.

I texted grandma a photo of the rides
and she told Ellen to get off of them because
they looked rusty.

There were plenty of neat places to grab a coffee

or some goat cheese

as well as mini golf

and a race track.

West Virginia University is about an hour away

I told the kids if any of them decide to go there,
they are taking a bus and I'll see them at Christmas.
#toohilly!

I'd give Deep Creek Lake, Maryland
a five out of five
for a family friendly vacation spot.

Upon our return home
we had to say goodbye to our dear, sweet Josie.

Natalie still sits in her spot where Josie always was
and asked to go to the Dog Doctor.
We think Natalie wants to see her friend,
and thinks Josie is there.
We have been telling her that Josie died,
but Natalie just can't bring herself to say it yet,
and I have yet to have a dry eyed day.

This is the only pet Sam has ever known.
He was very brave and learned a lot about life.
He wanted to make her a cross
to mark her grave along the outfield fence.

All the stress of planning and travel and loss has been a lot on Eloise.
I'm experiencing nerve pain along my trigeminal nerve.

Trigeminal Neuralgia

If you've ever experienced it,
please say a prayer that it subsides soon.
It kind of feels like this:

Perfect illustration! :( for trigeminal neuralgia. This is how I feel right now

It's rendered me unable to chew,
talk much,
or smile
as the pain is in my cheek,
jaw,
teeth,
and ear.

Just because I smile at you to say "Hello!" doesn't mean that I'm not in pain today. I'm just trying not to let my Trigeminal Neuralgia rule my life at every moment.

Anyone who has suffered from this,
please contact me if you have any advice to offer,
because this is all I got right now.
