Lesson 548: Last Day

Today was a day of Last Days.

That's Aunt Eloise proudly putting grown up Erik
on the school bus for the very last time.
Extended School Year has ended,
and as with most endings,
it was bitter sweet.

Today was also our beloved dog Josie's Last Day.
You've only been gone an hour
and we are missing you already, Josie!

Just a few weeks shy of her 14th birthday,
she outlived the life expectancy for a large Labrador Retriever.

We buried her less than an hour ago,
beneath the shade of a leafy maple

overlooking the outfield

where she loved to watch the kids play ball.

She was loved.

She will be missed.

Josie will be missed the most by this young lady,

who has a difficult time understanding complexities like death.

The Lamp Post Family,
minus one,
will be taking some time for bereavement tonight.

We'll be back next week with a travel blog
about a great vacation spot we discovered,
just four hours from home.

Eloise
