Lesson 566: Listen With the Ear of Your Heart

Listen, Erie.

Do you hear it?

It's the sound the lies in the
cold
stillness
 of
the Erie winter.

It's calling that can only be heard with the ear of your heart.

We heard it.

My friends and I gathered together at the South Pier

and readied ourselves

to run for a cause today.

My running group Will Run For...
in conjunction with
Dr. Steven Krauza's Team Adrenaline
outdoor workout group

wrote our 6th Chapter of our annual Christmas Story run for charity.

We ran for Erie's Emmaus Soup Kitchen.

We met for a workout at Lampe Marina,
loaded a truck filled with donations,
and walked,
jogged,
and ran to
the famous Soup Kitchen at 11th and Holland.

We discovered a great deal along the road to Emmaus.

We discovered that giving creates warmth

because not a one complained of the cold,
damp wind that whipped along the Bayfront.

We learned from Sister Mary,
who has been with the Emmaus project for 40 years,

that they have been making a commitment of
offering a hot meal a day,
from 4:00-5:30 pm,
six days a week,
since 1974,
averaging 200 meals per day.

We listened to the Sister Mary tell of their commitment
to the faceless and forgotten of society.

We listened with the open ears of our hearts.

We listened with love.

We are each on our own journey along the road
and were reminded this morning
that nobody's path is straight and smooth.

No road is meant to be traveled alone.
Find those you trust to walk with you,
to help you up when you fall,
and give you food when you are hungry.

December is a long month,
and there is lots of need in Erie.

If you hear that nagging sound that you can't quite make out,
try listening with the ear of your heart.
Answer the call to help those in need,
without judgment,
or prejudice,
or pride.

Look at wellness at work!
Giving makes you feel good from the inside out!

From the words of Luke, Chapter 24.

What did you hear along the road today?
Listen, Erie.
Listen with the ear of your heart.
Give to those in need.

Amen,
Eloise
