Lesson 858: August

Hello, Readers

and Hello, August.

The eighth month of the Gregorian calendar

has not disappointed

in the first two days.

It's the month we all wish to slow down,
savoring every drop of the
warmth,
sun,
and summer rains.

The roadside wildflowers

have bloomed into the most beautiful combinations.

The flowers I worked to raise from seed this year
are coming along nicely, too.

I'm harvesting my first zucchini this weekend,

and picking my first apple.

The lake along our US North Shore
always settles down in August.

Calm lake,

built beaches,

and interesting collections
of remnants of once living things.

Natalie went for a float this week!
The water is very warm.

A dip in the lake
felt great after a pick in the patch.
Blueberry season!

Sam's team played their last games of the baseball season,
spanning five months
from the Huskies to American Legion.

The American Legion finished third in the state!

An exhausted Sam returned home
happy to be in familiar surroundings,
sleeping in his own bed.
But awoke the next morning,
madder than a hornet,
working on the roster and line-up
for next year's team.

Look out Quakertown--
Post 571 will return.

We watched a few games live streamed from the garage.

We caught some in Pittsburgh as well,
stopping beforehand at Soergel's Market.

It's worth the stop if you are near Wexford.
I pick up coffee from new places,
and taste tested Warren's Bold Blend

vs. Jean's Morning Blend.

Jean won!

I was the winner when my family spotted this guy across the street
in the farmer's field.

What was he looking for?

I soon found out.
Mr. Frisby!
(for those of you who know and love
the children's classic
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH).

I tried to save Mr. Fisby
and chased him into the vineyard.

He gave it a shake
and swallowed it in one gulp.

I even got the bump.

We have the front porch decked out with flags.
as my porch flowers wilted in the heat.

The Olympic games have been on my tv
all day and all night.
We've been enjoying them thoroughly.

A huge thanks to Mike Bean for dropping off
a new Huskie flag!
Thank you Alicia, Taylor, and Emma!

It will be nice to have new flag to fly
for Sam's senior year.

Sam's senior photos were tonight.
Matt Kleck and his wonderful assistant Megan Kleck
were the obvious choice.

We shot at Shades Beach,
and earlier in the evening,
the high school athletic fields.

Check out Matt's website.
August dates are booked,
but he still has available dates this fall.

The evening sky was brilliant!

Watching these children at play
shocked me into feeling
how quickly 17 years have gone by.

To balance the sentimental nostalgia
I'm feeling tonight,
along with Mr. Frisby the field mouse
being swallowed whole,
I'll end with a Friday Night Funny.

This, my facebook post
after her annual doctor's appointment:

And better yet,
the physician asked Natalie if she had a healthy diet.
"Yes....." she replied in her typical monotone.
When the doctor dug for a little more information
as to what Natalie's favorite foods were,
if you know Natalie you can guess her reply.

and

Natalie--we all could use a little more
bacon and moonshine.
