Lesson 741: Reflection

I'll begin this Friday blog with some solemn reflection
as Christians spend Good Friday.

And as the sun rises on Saturday morning,
when most of my readers sip their coffee
and read this blog,
here are happy reflections of the past week.

The waters of the bay reflected a beautiful day
on Presque Isle with some of my students.
Here we are taking water samples,
learning how bacteria counts are taken.

It sure was a beautiful day!

The day after that--
not so much.
Natalie didn't care.
Double coats with the hoods up
and a blanket wrapped to protect her from the bitter wind
kept her snug for the baseball game.

#8 sure is great!

The dogs....not so great.
They want to run in the outfield and snag the balls.

They still got Easter cards from Grandma

despite their unruly behavior.

I spend lots of the year waiting outside the Senior High gym locker room
for Sam to get done with practice.

He stepped it up a little quicker when I told him
that Ellen came home from college and brought him treats
from the Edinboro chocolatier.

Here is Natalie's.
She is a nice sister!

The girls are working on supplies for their summer store!

And what is Eloise doing this weekend?
Still choosing a floor!
So many choices!

We've been picking at the choices for six months!

And today, we found one we could agree on!

I think most would agree that this is a great book!
I'm about halfway through and it's got me hooked!

These two cuties have me hooked, too!
Does anyone else follow Maia Knight,
Scout, and Violet?

And since I'm asking questions of you, Readers,
has anyone tried this at our mall yet?

Eloise is intrigued.

More on this skinny guy who keeps flying into my window:

The red Christmas ribbon and blue painter's tape weren't enough.
We had to call in a helper.

Joe Paterno seems to be doing the trick
of keeping the flap happy bird away.

Eloise was flap happy that we got to eat our Good Friday dinner out.

The Lamp Post will get a visit from Mr. E. Bunny on Sunday
because Natalie and Erik requested it at the
Sensory Friendly Easter Bunny hours at the Millcreek Mall last week.
The event was sponsored by the Speech Department of Edinboro University.

Although it's a solemn Friday,
let's end with a funny from Grandma.

Lesson 740: Isn't She a Beauty?

Hello, Readers.

I'll start this blog post with my favorite photo of the week.

This was taken by a Go Pro camera during a weather balloon launch

by some of our junior high and high school students.

Earth.

Isn't she a beauty?

This little robin thinks so.

He's been tapping his beak on my front glass door

for two days.

I'm not sure why he'd want to come in.    `

I don't think he is sure either.

Natalie is happy because it is baseball season.

She loves going to games,

even in unfavorable conditions.

Isn't she a beauty?

She was very sad tonight when I had to tell her

the weekend games were cancelled.

Natalie rolled with it better than I thought.
She has come a long way in her tolerance to change.
However,
I will make a mental note
never to have a plumber come to the house
to do work in her bathroom
when she is supposed to be getting ready for work.
According to Grandma,
that didn't go over so well.

Easter is next weekend.
And that is making me happy.
It is such a special time of the year.

If you are new to podcasts
and want a good one to listen to
I suggest this specific episode of This American Life
It's got some interesting stories
that would appeal to many.

It might seem lame
that I was looking through school stuff
and watching tv in my pajama pants
by 8:00 on a Friday night.

So, I'll leave you all with these words from Pigpen.

Lesson 739: Hard to Believe

 Hello, Readers.

I've spent this Friday weighing many Hard to Believe stories.

That is because I spent an April Fool's Day Friday in an elementary school.

Mother Nature got the first prank.

Snow this morning.

It's Hard to Believe that warm weather is near.

The rest of the day was spent being fooled by ten year olds.
Even being armed and ready for the tricks
I still hunted for a charger cords for a chrome book
that wasn't really dead.
APRIL FOOL!

My heart sunk when my favorite student told me she was moving.
APRIL FOOL!

After school my sister told me to avoid Kwik Fill
because gas prices rose to $5 a gallon.
APRIL FOOL!

I got grumpy after Grandma delivered the news
that the Harborcreek Post Office was closing that branch.
APRIL FOOL!

All things were believably Hard to Believe,
yet they were within reason
which made them very good tricks.

Kudos to all who got me.

The baseball team gets outside whenever the weather cooperates.
The freshman have to carry all of the gear.

It's Hard to Believe that Sam is fifteen.
Here he is with his birthday Samburger.

Sam has been raised in the time of camera phones,
so flashbacks are easy to find
and send.
Thanks Friendy Wendy for this one.

Sam is into jerseys and got this one for his birthday.
Grandma is into measuring herself against her baby grandson.
It's Hard to Believe how tall he's grown in the last six months.

It's even Harder to Believe two people
can spend 55 years together and still like each other.
Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad.

I don't mind at all living next door to my folks,
but when I throw the ball for the dogs in the backyard,
I get the sense that I'm being watched.

It's Hard to Believe blue skies are ahead.
We just have to dig deep, Erieites.
the edge of the temperamental spring
is always the hardest time of the year.

Have a great weekend!
Eloise
